Itinerary: 09:00 to 15:00

Welcome to the vibrant heart of Mauritius! This guided tour of Port Louis offers a sensory journey through our history, culture, and world-renowned street food.

Morning: Panoramas and Heritage

Your journey begins at Marie Reine de la Paix, a tranquil open-air church perched on the side of Signal Mountain. It offers a stunning panoramic view of the city skyline and the harbor—the perfect spot for your first photos.

From there, we delve into the island's spiritual diversity:

  • Chinese Pagoda (Rue Large): A peaceful retreat showcasing intricate traditional architecture and a glimpse into the heritage of the Sino-Mauritian community.
  • Champ de Mars: Visit the Mauritius Turf Club, the oldest horse-racing club in the Southern Hemisphere.
  • Fort Adelaide (The Citadel): Explore this 19th-century Moorish-style fortress for a 360-degree view of Port Louis and its surrounding mountain ranges.

Midday: Architecture and Atmosphere

We descend into the city centre to explore the contrast between the old and the new:

  • Le Caudan Waterfront: Stroll through this modern hub of shopping, art, and craft markets overlooking the marina.
  • Place D’Armes: Walk the palm-lined boulevard leading to the Government House. This grand colonial building serves as the seat of our Parliament and stands as one of the city's most iconic landmarks.

Afternoon: A Culinary Adventure

No visit to Port Louis is complete without tasting its soul. We’ll navigate the bustling alleys of the Central Market (The Bazaar) to sample seasonal treasures like Victoria pineapples, dragon fruit, and tangy tamarind.

The Iconic Street Food Trail:

  • The Classics: Taste the "National Dish" of street food—Dhal Puri at the famous Chez Maraz, paired with crunchy Gâteau Piment (chili cakes) and a refreshing glass of Alouda (a sweet, milky drink with basil seeds).
  • Jummah Mosque: Admire the stunning lime-white architecture of this historic mosque, a masterpiece of craftsmanship.
  • Chinatown: We end our tour in the colorful streets of Chinatown. Here, you’ll discover traditional Chinese shops and sample local specialties like Chinese cakes and Boulettes—the steaming, savory dumplings that are a staple of Mauritian street food.
